A jury decided last week a member of the Mexican Mafia "La Emme" will serve 10 years in prison after he was discovered by police with a group in Bloomington carrying a butcher knife, a straight razor, a pistol and two shovels.

Vicente Rosales, 38, and five others were on their way in the summer of 2011 to kill Felix Baladez before sheriff's deputies intervened, Victoria County District Attorney Stephen B. Tyler said.

"He'll be immediately segregated by the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, and it'll also mean until he's done something (such as renounce his gang affiliation) he won't be able to get good conduct issued," Tyler said.

Rosales is one of the last of the group to plead guilty. Others listed on the indictment were Larry Joe Nunez, Gerardo Castro, Danubio Samayoa, Christopher Thomas Gomez and Melanie Leann DeLeon.

Nunez has a plea hearing set for 9 a.m. Dec. 11 before Judge Robert C. Cheshire.

Rosales' attorney Luis A. Martinez could not be reached for comment.
