Having read the article about mentoring by Macarena Hernandez, I could not agree more with her position for mentors in the education process. Macarena's article inspired me to share a mentoring story of my own and thank a teacher/mentor in my high school years. Lolita Bracewell taught the Vocational Education Classes at my high school.
Mrs. Bracewell saw in me abilities that my classmates did not possess and encouraged my growth by supporting my existing knowledge in bookkeeping and office operations. She believed that I was capable of advancing at a faster pace than my peers and showed me she had faith in my knowledge by making me her student aide. I was able to thank her the following year when I returned to receive a letter of reference from her. Now that I am about to complete my college career, I would like to reiterate my thanks to her.
