Volunteers with Klean Corp International and Invista on Wednesday raised the first walls on a new Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity home at 3601 Swan Drive. The companies are co-sponsors of the project.

Two Victoria businesses celebrated the start of a new partnership with a bit of elbow grease.

Volunteers from Invista and Klean Corp. International joined forces Wednesday to raise the first walls for a new Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity house at 3601 Swan Drive, according to a joint news release.

Invista supports Habitat for Humanity because the nonprofit group aligns with Invista's philosophy of investing in programs that promote a strong work ethic, achievement and personal responsibility, Steve Harvill, Invista's Victoria site manager, said.

"Invista is very pleased and proud to partner with Habitat and KCI to assist a Victoria family with achieving the American dream of home ownership," he said.

The current project is the third home sponsorship for Klean Corp, a longtime supporter of the local Habitat group, said Robby Burdge, Klean Corp's president.

"The Habitat model of providing a hand up, and not a hand out, allows the organization to continue to impact lives with measurable sustainability. How cool is that?" he said. "Our KCI team members are proud of our affiliation with Habitat."

Cynthia Staley, Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity's executive director, said the organization was excited about the cooperative sponsorship. Habitat is about transforming families by providing simple, decent shelter for home buyers, she said.

"But more than that, we are about transforming our community as we transform families," she said. "Both of these sponsors understand the importance of community and the vital role they play as employers and members of the Victoria community."

The Swan Drive location is Golden Crescent Habitat's 77th house, according to the news release. It will be home to Lori Lott, a single mother of two.
