A tree fell across Colony Creek Drive near Colony Creek Country Club during Thursday afternoon's rain.

Storms drifting through the Crossroads caused a fire and some damage Thursday in Victoria County.

An oil tank on Beck Road East in Inez caught fire after lightning struck it, according to Victoria County Fire Marshal Ron Pray.

"When the lightning struck the top of the tank, it just ignited the vapors that come out the top," he said.

The oil in the tank never caught fire and no damage or injuries were reported. Firefighters responded to the call about 2:30 p.m. and had the fire extinguished by about 3:30 p.m.

A tree also was blown down at the outbound entrance to Colony Creek.

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi reported 1.43 inches of rain at the Victoria Regional Airport as of 9:30 p.m. Thursday with chances for additional rainfall throughout the night.

Even though the forecast calls for more rain Friday, Tawnya Evans, forecaster with the National Weather Service, said severe storms are not expected.

"There could be heavy rainfall, but the ground can soak up quite a bit at this point," she said. "There could be some minor flooding in localized areas."
