A Victoria man was sentenced to 20 years in prison Thursday after a jury found him guilty of robbery.

Jason Ray Cordova, 28, testified he robbed an Ace Cash Express on Sept. 9, 2011, using an air soft gun, his attorney Stephen Byrne said.

That's perhaps why the jury did not find Cordova guilty of aggravated robbery, another charge listed in the April indictment, Byrne said.

Assistant District Attorney Eli Garza, who prosecuted the case, could not be reached for comment.

"I suspect that there was a reasonable doubt that the robbery was committed with a fire arm," Byrne said.

He said the victim, an Ace Cash Express employee, had no physical injuries.

"This was a very good result for the defendant," Byrne said. "It was a really well thought out jury deliberation of guilt or innocence."

He did not know whether Cordova would appeal.
