Just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday a rainbow could be seen circling the sun near downtown Victoria.

What is it?

Anna Rosas, of Victoria, spotted this unusual rainbow around the sun on Wednesday and tipped off the Advocate. Our photographer, Angeli Wright, took some photos of the phenomenon from downtown Victoria.

We spoke with Roger Gass, meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi, who explained how this happens. Click on the PDF below the photos on right to see an explanation.
