The DeWitt County Taxpayers League celebrated Constitution Day with a candidate forum on Sept. 17, which included a barbecue meal and time to meet and greet one another. With 75 people in attendance at the American Legion Hall in Cuero, the event began with the pledge to the United States flag and an opening prayer. Obert Sagebiel conducted a Constitutional Day quiz, which provided a look at the Constitution to see how well the audience knew important facts.

Paul Guidry, as moderator, explained how the forum would be conducted and instructed each candidate that they had two minutes to respond to each question.

Issues discussed included: bills to be sponsored, paltry state funds vs. DeWitt County contributions, candidate responsibilities and qualifications, current traffic problem resolutions, repair of county roads, Eagle Ford issues, and education. Each candidate responded to the question addressed to them and provided an ending summation giving the audience a well-rounded view of their position.
