The scene after a fire was extinguished after an early morning wreck under the overpass at state Highway 185 at U.S. Highway 59 involving a tractor-trailer and a pickup in Victoria.

A truck driver from Katy underwent surgery Tuesday at Citizens Medical Center after a fiery two-vehicle wreck on U.S. Highway 59.

Ricardo Sanchez, 33, was driving a tractor-trailer south on U.S. Highway 59 when it collided with a pickup driven by Joseph Jones, 54, of Victoria, also traveling south, said Sgt. Eline Moya, Victoria Police Department public information officer.

Sanchez was listed in guarded condition in the intensive care unit as of Tuesday evening, a hospital spokeswoman said.

Exact details of how the crash happened have not been determined because investigators have been unable to interview both drivers, Moya said.

As of Tuesday evening, Jones was in stable condition at DeTar Hospital Navarro, a hospital spokeswoman said.

The crash took place about 6 a.m. under the state Highway 185 overpass.

The tractor-trailer overturned and burst into flames, said Moya.

Portions of both highways were shut down most of the morning.
