He's a little country and a lot of comedian - he's Rodney Carrington - and he's performing to a sold out crowd at the Victoria Fine Arts Center on Thursday.
Jeff Lyon, vice president of Townsquare Media with KIXS FM in Victoria, said Carrington's two sold-out shows are testament to his popularity with Crossroads residents.
"I'm pleasantly surprised," Lyon said about the shows selling out. "It just depends on who the artist is."
Carrington, 44, has sold more than 3 million copies and has recorded eight comedy albums. Some of his most popular songs are "Show Them To Me," and "Goin' Home with a Fat Girl," according to a news release from Townsquare Media.
Carrington's performances are adult-themed, and the lyrics contain the comedy as well as his banter.
Acts like Carrington is what Lyon wants to continue bringing to the Crossroads. Townsquare has brought other artists like Brantley Gilbert and Casey James, a top-three finalist on American Idol season 9.
Soon, Townsquare Media will announce other acts for its Taste of Country performances in either November or December, Lyon said.
"It's part of our business plan to do more live events," Lyon said. "We're just continuing to explore and try different kinds of entertainment."
Wilkinson Pre-Owned Supercenter is sponsoring the performances, which are at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.
