Victoria Advocate reporter Dianna Wray's work reporting on the Eagle Ford Shale is the winner of a statewide award for environmental reporting.
The award is for Wray's seven-part series called "The Play" and will be presented Saturday during the Sierra Club's Lone Star Chapter meeting in Austin.
In announcing the award, the chairwoman of the Sierra Club awards committee wrote, "Your comprehensive coverage of the transformation that has taken place in rural Texas due to development of the Eagle Ford Shale merited National Press Club Award. I cannot say it better than did Mina Williams and Venice Scheurich, who nominated you, 'her ability to translate difficult technical procedures and complicated ethical questions into narrative form so that readers look forward to seeing her forthcoming articles. She consistently provides valuable insights by use of interviews with local citizens, weaving their comments into tapestries which make scientific principles and otherwise potentially difficult information palatable and enjoyable for the casual reader.' You are helping make this world a better place."
