A Thursday evening power outage at Invista's Victoria site is thought to be the result of a failed guy wire that made contact with the facility's main power supply, Amy Hodges, the plant's regional public affairs manager, said Friday.
Power has been restored, and the three affected plants - Invista, DuPont and LyondellBasell - are in the initial stages of restarting operations.
The site experienced an outage about 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Hodges said. Safety and emergency systems worked as designed to safely shut down all operating units and mitigate the outage's impact.
Employees during the outage followed the site's shelter-in-place procedures, Hodges said. No employees were injured as a result of the outage.
Hodges said the site deployed its mobile air monitoring trucks around the perimeter and detected no unsafe conditions. All appropriate regulatory agencies, including the Victoria Emergency Management office, were contacted.
The investigation is ongoing.
