These days, the public's regard for elected officials in Congress and similar positions isn't high, Victoria County Sheriff T. Michael O'Connor said. And while those opinions come for a variety of reasons, it boils down to a couple of factors.
"The key is the respect and trust of the people," he said. "That's what they expect from a sheriff, and that's what my objectives will always be."
O'Connor was voted the Crossroads' best elected official in the Advocate's 2013 Best of the Best contest. This is his fourth year winning.
The Victoria native, who has served as sheriff for eight years, said he is humbled by the award. He said he appreciates not only those who voted, but the men and women with the sheriff's office, who are instrumental in getting the job done.
"I'm hoping that I've been a worthwhile investment," he said. "This is truly gratifying, humbling recognition."
