Advocate wins 5 national news awards

The Victoria Advocate won five awards from the Local Media Association.
The national awards were announced Monday morning. The Advocate competed with daily newspapers from across the United States with a circulation of 30,000 or more.
The seven-part series "The Play" won two first-place awards for best feature series and best environmental coverage. It also won a second-place award for best graphic artwork supporting news content.
The paper also received two honorable mention awards for Get Out for best entertainment/lifestyle section and best breaking news story for a 4-year-old killed by a pit bull.
Local Media Association is a nonprofit, professional trade association that specifically serves the suburban and community newspaper industry.
