Home Instead Senior Care is a new senior care service in Victoria.

Owners Stephanie Niles and Chris Baughman opened the office in March to fill a gap toward helping families care for loved ones.

Home Instead Senior Care is a franchise, which provides in-home, nonmedical care through caregivers.

"It's my desire to help people by providing a service that is beneficial," said Niles, who is a Victoria native and lives in Richmond. "We want to relieve family caregiving stress, so they can focus on the relationship with their loved ones, and enjoy the time they have with that loved one."

Caregivers from Home Instead are trained to provide specialized care to seniors, including patients who have dementia or Alzheimer's, said Niles.

In addition, the senior home care services may include assistance with trips to the doctor, reminders to take the right medication at the right time, meal preparation, light housekeeping, errands and shopping, according to the website. The result is companionship allowing seniors to feel safe and independent while they age in place in the home they've lived in for years.

Niles, 34, and Baughman, 49, got into caregiving after being tasked with finding care for their own family members.

Baughman realized what his family went through, as he realized finding care for his mother-in-law was not easy. He said his work as a gym trainer prepared him to work with helping others.

"Leading up to where we found a caregiver was stressful," said Baughman. "It took several months.

Caregiving, Niles said, is a need for people as they become older.
