A new fundraiser is coming to Victoria on Thursday.
For the first time, "The Power of the Purse" is being hosted by the Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas at 6:30 p.m. at the Club at Colony Creek, 301 Colony Creek Drive.
"Girl Scouts of Greater South Texas has had great success with this fundraiser in other areas of the council and is looking forward to bringing this fun event to Victoria," said Danielle Altenburg, director of marketing.
The adults-only cocktail event features a silent auction with dozens of new purses of every size and style up for grabs.
"We have had generous donations of about 50 great-looking purses as well as some other items for the silent auction," said Belinda Rocha, director of fund development.
In addition to the purses, silent auction items include tickets to the Emmitt Smith appearance in Victoria in May courtesy of Golden Crescent Habitat for Humanity and donations of accessories and gift certificates from many area merchants.
In Victoria, Girl Scouts got its start in the 1950s and now includes more than 1,800 girls.
Its Outreach Program serves girls in schools that could not otherwise afford to be a Girl Scout.
