CORPUS CHRISTI - After making history with their first-ever district title, the Cuero girls golf squad is on the verge of making more history. The Lady Gobblers sit two strokes behind Sealy after Day 1 of the 3A regional golf tournament at Oso Beach Golf Course.
Sealy will enter the final round of play Tuesday with a 387 team total, while Cuero has a 389.
Mary Kate Krueger turned in the low scorecard of round one for Cuero with a 92. Jennifer Sturm and Chelsea Veit each finished with a 98. Cassidy Blackwell had a 101, and Kaelen Sievers a 112.
Yoakum also has a chance to make history - although not in the way it would like.
With a 419 team total, the Lady Bulldogs find themselves in eighth place and in danger of ending a 31-year run to the state tournament.
Only the top two teams plus the top two individuals advance to the state tournament.
Anna Kvinta finished the day with a 93 for Yoakum, while Elizabeth Moehlman had an even 100, Catherine Hunter a 110, Lindsey Jacobs a 116, and Jenna Holik a 122.
