State should abandon plan for wasteful highway

Editor, the Advocate:

The Texas Department of Transportation could take a lesson from Victoria officials on not taking federal (our) dollars for the sake of just spending money. TxDOT has a plan for the citizens and businesses of Victoria. TxDOT is planning to build a interstate highway between Loop 463 and US 87 on US 59 within the city of Victoria with no way to cross this new highway for 3.5 miles. This means, if you have a business within this area, your customers will have drive seven extra miles out of the way to get to your business. This also effects people who live on Hanselman Road. Fire and police will be delayed in getting to your home or business in the event of emergencies. If TxDOT is allowed to go forward with this waste of our money project, property values will decrease. This will directly affect the county and city of Victoria with the loss of property tax revenues from businesses. I urge the people of Victoria County to call the office of the district engineer in Yoakum to voice a "no" on wasting federal money that our government does not have. TxDOT plans on wasting $12 million on this not-needed project.
