CUERO

April 19

Receipts: 1,123

Had 170 cows and 14 bulls. The packer market was essentially the same as last week as large numbers of packer cows and bulls continue to come to market as this drought continues.

The calf market continues to be steady to weaker $1-$2 on most classes. Thin steers 500 to 700 pounds remain strong as they can go straight to the feed lot, and as a result those classes are higher than last week. Little can be done with lighter calves that do not have any grass country to go to or no cheap grain available. New crop calves carrying too much flesh are discounted because of that. Good interest in all classes just at lower levels.

Packer bulls: Heavy weights, $88-$95; lower grades, $67-$80.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$72; boning cows, $74-$80; canners and cutters, $83-$90; light and weak, $50-$66.

Palpated dry cows (24 bred cows): $74-$92; pairs (15): $820-$1,300.
