Port of Victoria officials plan to expand the port's infrastructure to prepare for future growth.
Commissioners approved during an April 16 meeting a nearly $5.3 million bid for construction of a new general purpose dock for industrial use.
"The interest in the Port of Victoria is stronger than ever," Board Chairman Robby Burdge said in a news release. "This new general purpose, cargo and container dock at the Port's Industrial Park South will give us the capacity for continued growth."
Forde Construction Company, of Houston, was awarded the contract.
The Port of Victoria has an economic impact of more than $6 billion annually on the Texas and U.S. economy, according to recent studies by Martin and Associates.
