City champs continue to excel in competition

The current Victoria USBC City Champions demonstrated that they continue to bowl great after their recent success.

David Matthews, this years' Victoria USBC Open Champion, enjoyed another great week on the lanes. His highest score was during Friday Mixed League competition, where he posted games of 235, 222 and 264 to total 721, which was high for the weekly honors.

He also rolled great sets of 703 and 676 in two other leagues.

The current Victoria Women's City Champion, Sharon Guinn also excelled with two great sets.

During Sundowner League competition, Guinn smashed the pins to roll games of 224, 254 and 215 for a great 693 series. She also rolled a 628 set in another league.

Charles Aiken was the only other bowler to break the 700 mark this week with a great 279 high game contributing towards a 706 series.

Other scores of note for the men were Mike Wortham, 695; Todd Pfuhl, 265-694; Gary Hatter Jr., 259-693; Danny Reissig, 276-691; Justin Tweedle, 259-691; Mike Stacy, 685/269; Dandy Richards, 677; Steve Zeplin, 256-671; Kenny Schupbach, 259-669; Randy Vivero, 258-666; Victor Thomas, 663; Jamar Bryant, 252-659; Steve Dickinson, 258-656; Joseph Blount, 265; Chris Kurtz, 263; Shawn Miller, 257;and senior bowler David Persilver, 248.

Congratulations to Dan C. Gutierrez, who at 90 years young, bowled a very nice 225 game during the Over The Hill League.

Guinn was not the only woman bowler to excel this week. Young Bailey Koebrick continues to highlight her bowling skills with an impressive 235 high game and 665 series for the women' second high series.

Several other women broke the 660 mark, which included Christine Speer, 233-655; Lynda Mikulec, 213-620; Lori Heil, 225-609; Gayle Boyd, 604; and Carri Lee, 216-600.

Also bowling well were Judy Reyna with a 591 series and Annette Cano with a 225 game.

Vera Cruz Restaurant bowlers for the week were Sharon Guinn 756 (Sundowners) and Charles Aiken 754 (Sugar & Spice).

Congratulations to Kenny Schupbach, who broke the bank at the Century Lanes last week.

The Victoria USBC Bowling Association will hold its annual membership meeting May 4, at Vera Cruz Restaurant. Meeting time will be at 9:30 a.m. for Directors and 10 a.m. for VUSBC membership.

The annual membership is when all local sanction bowlers are asked to attend and vote for election of directors and hear committee reports.

In order for business to be conducted, a quorum is needed, so please make an effort to attend.

With most of the fall leagues ending next month, summer league schedules are available at the Century Lanes front desk. Keep in touch with your bowling friends and improve your game during the summer.
