Ken Wallace led Runge to its first playoff appearance since 1997 and its first winning season since 1999.
But Wallace won't be returning next season.
Wallace is resigning as the Runge's athletic director and head football coach at the end of the school year.
Wallace has been at Runge for two seasons. The Yellowjackets went 2-8 in his first season before improving to 9-3 last season.
Runge finished second to Falls City in District 14-1A, Division II.
The Yellowjackets defeated Granger 22-0 in bi-district for their first playoff win since 1996 before losing to D'Hanis 35-28 in overtime in the area round.
Wallace did not return phone messages Wednesday seeking comment.
Janice Sykora, superintendent of the Runge school district, said she did not know if Wallace planned to coach next season.
Sykora said she hoped the district could hire Wallace's replacement sometime in May.
Wallace has been a head coach for four seasons.
He coached a year at Sabine Pass and a year at Brookshire Royal before coming to Runge.
He has an overall record of 16-19.
