Editor, the Advocate:
Seeking election to the City Council is not a responsibility to be taken lightly. One should seek to represent the entire town and not certain factions or special interest groups. Tom Halepaska is such a councilman. Tom is a successful business owner and understands that a town, like a business, must grow or wither; and this growth must be accomplished with budgetary restraint. He has sought to position our city for long-term stability with the acquisition of water rights that give us 50-plus years of adequate supply.
New companies and ventures are coming into Victoria, and the infrastructure necessary to support them is being accomplished. Career ladder pay concerns with first responders has been solved. Major streets have been rebuilt, and others in need are being considered. Our debt ratio is about what it was 10 years ago, and the tax rate is decreasing.
Tom does his homework for the long-term benefit of all Victorians, and it does take years of work to understand the job of councilman. I have known him for many years and appreciate the city's growth, lower tax rates with increased value of my property, long-term development vision and his honest, unbiased work for all.
We have a valuable councilman in Tom Halepaska. Let's keep Victoria's future bright by re-electing Tom Halepaska.
