Annual clay shoot benefits youth club, Rotary

The 16th annual Jack Whitmire Memorial Charity Sporting Clay Shoot is being held on Beck Ranch Saturday and Sunday.

Jack Whitmire would be proud.

The late Whitmire was an instrumental part in the success of the annual charity clay shoot that now bears his name.

The Victoria Rotary Club and the Boys & Girls Club of Victoria host the 16th annual Jack Whitmire Memorial Charity Sporting Clay Shoot on Saturday and Sunday at the Beck Ranch, 9023 Salem Road.

Registration begins at 1 p.m. Saturday. The shoot starts at 11 a.m. Sunday and will be held, rain or shine.

Also Saturday, a silent auction will be from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.

A barbecue dinner will be at 6 p.m. Saturday with an auction starting at 7:30 p.m. A Calcutta auction will be at 8:30 p.m.

The entry fee is $150 for adult shooters. Youth shoot for free with an adult sponsor. Tickets to the dinner and auction only are available for $25.

The Boys & Girls Club of Victoria provides after-school programs to nearly 550 registered members between the ages of 6 and 18.

The Boys & Girls Club receives half the revenue from the clay shoot.

The Victoria Rotary Club will use its half of the clay shoot proceeds to help fund numerous programs in the community, including the EarlyAct FirstKnight program at DeLeon and Aloe elementary schools and Patti Welder Middle School.

The Victoria Rotary Club also supports other nonprofit organizations in the community through grants awarded by the Victoria Rotary Foundation.
