UHV men in second after first round

The UHV men's golf team found itself within striking distance of first place before heavy rains put the Association of Independent Institutions tournament on hold until Tuesday morning.

The Jaguars shot a one-round team total of 302. Cal State San Marcos ended the first round in first place with a 294 team total.

Vance Edwards and Steve Jones each turned in the low scorecard for UHV with a 72. Jake Truss shot a 78 at the Victoria Country Club, while Colton Martin shot an 80, and Will Dawson-Hicks shot a 91.

Play was suspended at 1:29 p.m. due to severe weather in the area. Round 2 will begin at 8:30 a.m. with a shotgun start. Round 3 will begin at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start.



UHV women in fourth after Round 1

Brooke Brasseaux was the lone Jaguar to shoot under 80 in the first round of the AII tournament Monday at The Club at Colony Creek.

UHV is in fourth place after one round with a 325 team total. British Columbia ended the day in first place with a 287 team total.

Brasseaux shot a 74 to lead the Jaguars. Allison Koenig shot an 81, and Becky Benchot was just two strokes behind. Devon Dueser shot an 87 and Lyndie Smith a 92.

Round 2 will begin Tuesday morning at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start.
