Joe Partida was almost struck by lightning on Rosebud Avenue when he was picking up an air conditioner for repairs.

Lightning never strikes the same place twice - so Joe Partida hopes he's home free after a too-close-for-comfort lightning strike during a Monday afternoon thunderstorm.

The 60-year-old Victoria native was picking up an air conditioner for repairs in the 1400 block of Rosebud Avenue when lightning struck 3 feet from him.

"It was just a big ol' ball of fire," said Partida, whose hands were still shaking two hours later. "I saw smoke, like if they had just shot a shotgun."

The lightning strike happened about 2:30 p.m., said Partida.

He was walking along the street curb when the lightning struck. His ears rang for a while, but he's OK, he said.

"The good Lord saved me," he said. "I've seen this on TV, but this is the closest I've ever been to that."
