Prayers for the nation. Prayers for the city.
This year's theme, "Pray for America," will be based on Matthew 12:21, "In his name, the nations will put their hope."
"We need reminders all the time and something to keep us on the mark," Smith said, Victoria's National Day of Prayer organizer. "There's a particular need for prayer in these desperate days."
The Rev. Nick Stewart of Lighthouse Free Will Baptist Church will emcee the program. The Rev. Mike Kinsey of First Methodist of Victoria will be the keynote speaker.
Six additional speakers - the Revs. Carl Westbrook, Jim Pierson, Deborah Cantu, Danny Goven, Walter Jackson and Charles Stevens - will each offer special prayers for government, community, world peace, the Christian church, education and families.
Musical entertainment will be provided by Trinity Episcopal's youth choir.
The service at De Leon Plaza begins at noon and continues for about an hour, Smith said.
It's a non-sectarian event and open to anyone in the community to attend.
Seating is limited, and attendees are encouraged to bring chairs and blankets to the event.
Those who cannot attend can still pray during the lunch hour at their homes.
