Art Corner: New classes at Victoria Art League to begin
Hi Victoria, Cuero, Goliad, Edna, Port Lavaca, Placedo, Hallettsville, Rockport, Shiner, Kenedy, Nursery, Yoakum, Gonzales, Ganado, Beeville, Georgetown, Lakeway and any other place we reach in the Crossroads and beyond.
Thank you all for being a part of our Victoria Art League and supporting us over the years.
We have some new classes starting this month along with our ongoing classes.
I will be starting a beginners pottery class Aug. 27 and continuing each Tuesday for six weeks until Oct. 1. You have a choice of an afternoon evening class from 1-4 p.m. or a night class from 6-9 p.m.
I will also be teaching a follow-up class for those with pottery experience Thursdays. Call me at 361-649-8309.
Jim Feig will start a beginners digital photography class Aug. 27 and will continue for four Tuesdays from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. He is also planning a Photoshop software class for September. Contact Feig at 361-576-0578 or 361-649-8738.
Here is a new class: Christine Thieme will offer a one-day woodblock printing workshop from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday. Call her for more information at 649-1323.
Sarah Weatherly will teach a children's workshop Aug. 14-16. Please call Weatherly at 254-723-8080 for times and cost.
Another new class will be soldered sculpture with William Vickery, which will start the first Tuesday in September. Call him for time and details at 235-2416.
Gerald Bienvenu will offer a three-day watercolor workshop from 1-4 p.m. Aug. 12-14. Call 205-393-9455 for more information.
Ongoing classes include Sonny Timme's adult classes offering instructions in various 2D mediums. Beginner or experienced, you can join his classes anytime. Call Timme at 361-578-8722 for information.
Michelle Evans will resume her children's classes now that school is starting again. You will need to call her for scheduling at 649-8092.
Paint the Town continues on various days during the week.
We will hold our monthly meeting at 2 p.m. Aug. 11 in the gallery with a reception for our artist of the month, Jim Frank. Frank will be showing his clay sculptures and watercolor paintings, so if you cannot make the reception, come to the Art League and view his work between 1 and 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays.
Following that, at 2:30 p.m. in our classroom, William Vickery, who is just finishing his classes on stained glass, will be demonstrating soldered sculpture. He will offer a class in this about three weeks later so if you would like to see this demonstrated, you might make a special effort to be there.
For any of you who might not know where we are located and would like to attend one of our monthly meetings, we are in the historical Thurmond building at 905 S. Bridge St. We do hope you will come down and visit our gallery, attend a demonstration, join a class or maybe use our facilities for a special event through our rental plan.
Bill Bauer is past president of the Victoria Art League.
