Thank you to Victoria for supporting daughter
Editor, the Advocate:
Earlier this year, our family received some of the worst news possible; our then 7-year-old daughter, Eve, was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. From the initial findings, the wonderful emergency room staff at Citizen's Medical Center started what would be a long journey to making our baby healthy again. Eve was transported to Texas Children's Hospital (thank you, Sacred Heart Ambulance), where she received the best possible care imaginable. It was in Houston when we really began to see just how great Victoria is. The first week there, Eve had so many visitors, cards and calls from "home." Eventually, a group of great friends came up with the idea to have a benefit to help ease the monetary strain caused by the never-ending medical bills. This also led to a "Team Eve 5K Run" as well as a "Team Eve Crossfit WOD."
The "Team Eve" benefit turned into more of a celebration as we learned just before the benefit that Eve was cancer-free! The benefit was a huge success. It took so many wonderful people to pull off an event of this caliber. It was a very special moment for us to see Eve and her sister, Lila, pull up to Holy Family Church in the pink police car with sirens blaring to a sea of purple "Team Eve" T-shirts. The generosity of this city was absolutely amazing. We would like to thank the Team Eve organizers and volunteers for a job well done. We would like to thank all of the people who donated to make this event the success it was. We would also like to thank all of the people who bought shirts, food (It must have been good - they ran out!), cakes, auction items, etc. Most of all, we would like to thank Victoria for all of the thoughts and prayers; they were answered!
