Editor, the Advocate:

I have had the privilege of working for with the Victoria Independent School District for 22 years. Recently, I was faced with the difficult decision of submitting my resignation and accepting the position of director of personnel with the Goose Creek Consolidated School District in Baytown.

It has been a source of pride for me to serve this community and school district as a guidance counselor, an assistant principal, a principal and, for the last eight years, as the director of human resources. During my 22 years in VISD, I have been honored to work with some amazing educators and support staff at Patti Welder Middle School, Memorial High School and districtwide while at the Human Resources Office at the administration building.

Most importantly, I treasure the opportunities I've had to encourage, assist and influence the lives and careers of students and employees alike. I am humbled on a day-to-day basis as I run into successful young adults in our community who take the time to acknowledge me and share personal and professional milestones with their former counselor, principal or director. I am honored to have hired a significant number of former students to work for VISD and to frequent the many area businesses benefiting from these talented former students. The same holds true for the many individuals who were a part of VISD's family and have retired or made career changes.

While I am leaving VISD, this is not farewell; I continue to consider Victoria my home. I wish to thank all of the staff members who throughout the years supported me and shared my vision and goals for our campuses, departments and school district. I wish you continued success for this school year and many more to come.

Eloy Chapa, Victoria
