County to see savings in new electrical contract

An updated electric contract is projected to save Victoria County taxpayers thousands.

Victoria County commissioners approved a new agreement Monday with World Energy Solutions that will go into effect in 2015.

The contract lowers the cost of electricity to a flat rate of 5.096 cents per kilowatt-hour from 5.85 cents per kwh, resulting in about $218,000 of savings through April 2018.

So long as energy consumption does not spike, the lowered rate means you're saving money, said Commissioner Kevin Janak.

"We're very blessed to be able to negotiate and get a flat rate of 5 cents," Janak said. "That's pretty good."

Furthermore, Janak, who spearheaded the negotiations, brought the user fee down to .1 cent from .118 cents.

World Energy expects the county will save $72,867 annually on the 82 meters the county operates on.

County Judge Don Pozzi commended Janak on the negotiations.

Energy Company of America will supply the electricity - more than 25 million kwh - to the county.
