Election judges needed for several polling precincts

Aug. 6, 2013 at 3:06 a.m.

The Victoria County Elections Office is seeking presiding and alternate judges for elections between November to May 2014.

Officials must be registered voters and typically must live in the election precinct they plan working at, but that is not always required.

Election judges are appointed annually in August by the commissioners court, and the duties require conducting voting at their polling location. Judges also are responsible for hiring an alternate judge and clerks for assistance on election days.

Judges will receive training on computer databases, voting equipment, forms and procedures and learning about election law.

One presiding judge position is open for Precinct 6, which votes at the Family Worship Center. An alternate judge is also needed for Precinct 6, as well as Precinct 8, which votes at Shields Elementary School; Precinct 15, McFaddin School Building; Precinct 19, Smith Elementary School; Precinct 20, Creager Residence; Precinct 26, Telferner Methodist Church; Precinct 27, Inez Volunteer Fire Department, and Precinct 33, Holy Family Catholic Church.

To learn more about applying for the positions, contact the elections office at 361-576-0124 or email the office at elections@vctx.org. The office is located at the Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center, 2805 N. Navarro St., Suite 500.

The first Election Day for the new appointments is Nov. 5 for the constitutional amendments.
