The Victoria Police Department will host the annual National Night Out 2013 on Oct. 1.

National Night Out program is held in communities all over the country to heighten community awareness about drug and crime prevention programs and to strengthen police and community relations among many other things.

Now is the time to begin finding neighbors to help plan activities and locations for National Night Out block parties and festivities.

Neighborhoods that have held parties previously as well as neighborhoods that are new to the program are encouraged to participate. Contact the Crime Prevention Unit for planning tips and ideas to make your neighborhood's block party a success.

The deadline to register block parties with the Crime Prevention Unit to help assure that officers, firefighters and other public figures can stop by is 5 p.m. Sept. 18.

The Victoria Police Department will have a National Night Out Kick Off Party from noon to 3 p.m Sept. 28 at the Victoria Mall.

Contact the Police Department Crime Prevention Unit at 361-485-3808 if your business would like to have a booth at the party or if you would like to provide entertainment during the party. Slots are limited, so act fast.
