4 Austin residents injured in DeWitt crash
A family of four from Austin were injured Monday afternoon in a one-vehicle rollover on U.S. Highway 183 near the scenic overlook.
The wreck took place 1/2 mile south of Farm-to-Market Road 2718.
Gerald Wright Jr., 45, of Austin, fell asleep at the wheel of his 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer about 3:10 p.m., according to the Texas Department of Public Safety report.
Wright was traveling north on the highway. The Trailblazer ran off the right side of the road, Wright overcorrected back to the left and crossed both lanes of the roadway, said DPS spokesman Trooper Gerald Bryant.
"It went up an embankment, flipped over and struck a (Texas Department of Transportation) sign," Bryant said.
Lucila Wright, 6, who was not wearing a safety belt in the back seat, was ejected, Bryant said.
The driver was taken to Citizens Medical Center in Victoria. He was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
The 6-year-old girl was taken to Dell Children's Medical Center in Austin.
Two other passengers, Glenn Wright, 13, and Lucila Wright-Morales, 45, were taken to University Hospital in San Antonio, according to the DPS report.
Conditions on the three passenger were not available.
