Victoria police officers were looking for a robbery suspect early Wednesday after a man fled a vehicle during a traffic stop made just minutes after an armed robbery.

Officials said no injuries were reported.

A full description of the suspect was not immediately available as of 1:15 a.m. Wednesday.

About 11 p.m. Tuesday police were called to a convenience store in the 1500 block of East North Street on a report that a man wearing a gray hoodie and black bandana on his face was trying to enter the store, said Sgt. Adam Nieto of the Victoria Police Department.

The front door of that store was locked, and the suspect left, Nieto said.

Shortly afterward, police then received a report of an armed robbery at a convenience store in the 2100 block of Lone Tree Road, Nieto said.

The two stores are about a half mile apart.

Officers were able to stop a rented dark gray Chevrolet Cruze with Tennessee license plates near the intersection of Delmar Drive and Lone Tree Road.

The passenger of the vehicle got out of the car and ran, Nieto said.

The driver, a man in his 20s, was arrested and the vehicle was searched, Nieto said.

He said officers found evidence linking the driver and the passenger to the armed robbery.

However, Nieto declined to elaborate about the evidence or whether any money was taken from the robbery.

He also said the two men are thought to be connected to other recent robberies, but he also declined to specify which ones.

"At this time officers are still searching for the passenger that ran," Nieto said.

An employee of the store that was robbed declined to comment.
