Flip flops are fashionable anytime in Port Lavaca but never so much as Labor Day weekend.

The fifth annual Flip Flop Festival, sponsored by the city of Port Lavaca and the Port Lavaca Chamber of Commerce, is Aug. 30-31 at the Bayfront Peninsula, according to a news release from the chamber.

Admission is not charged to attend the event, which kicks off at 7 p.m. Aug. 30 with musical performances.

Saturday morning, the festival begins at 10 a.m. with a washer tournament for cash followed by a flip flop decorating contest, the annual "Fling Flong" contest and a kid zone with activities including games, prizes and face painting.

Food and shopping vendors, a biergarten and barbecue cook-off along with live bands and dancing performances are among the many other offerings.

The Flip Flop Festival will end with popular country-rock band, Reckless Kelly.
