Update:At 3:27 p.m. all roads closed because of a gas leak at the Houston Highway and John Stockbauer Drive intersection were reopened. Buildings that were closed returned to normal operating procedures, said Battalion Chief Roger Hempel.

Areas surrounding Houston Highway and John Stockbauer Drive are closed because of a gas leak.

Victoria Fire Department responded to a 911 call about 1:30 p.m. Friday from construction workers that hit a CenterpointPoint Energy gas line on the southeast side of Houston Highway while working on the roadway, said Battalion Chief Roger Hempel.

No injuries have been reported, and Hempel estimates the leak to be isolated and the roads re-opened by 3:30 p.m.

Three area businesses, Surplus Warehouse, Fesco Inc. and the Exxon Mobile gas station were evacuated.

"Due to the amount of gas leaking out in our wind direction we were worried about gas collecting inside of businesses," Hempel said.
