Trends: Steers and heifers, steady/active.

Steers: (200-300) $130-$195; (300-400) $132-$195 (400-500) $135-$193; (500-600) $119-$155; (600-700) $111-$150; and (700-800) $107-$140.

Heifers: (200-300) $147-$202; (300-400) $133-$170; (400-500) $124-$188; (500-600) $111-$144; (600-700) $105-$132; and (700-800) $86-$127.

CUERO

Aug. 23

Receipts: 2,041

Had 207 cows and 17 bulls. The packer market was steady with past two week's levels. Had some high yielding cows that made the market look higher. Competition on certain cows made the market trend a little higher.

The calf market was strong throughout all classes for the most part. Some of the crossbred steers and bull calves between 500 to 600 pounds were a little off. Light calves trended $2 to $6 higher with the overall market on all classes up $1 to $2. No holes in the market as evidenced by the strong demand on all classes.

Packer bulls: Heavy weights, $94-$104; lower grades, $70-$91.

Packer cows: breakers, $65-$75; boning cows, $65-$85; canners and cutters, $80-$92; light and weak, $50-$65.

Palpated dry cows (39 bred cows): $90-$112; pairs: $1,000-$2,300.

Steer calves: (under 200) $212-$244; (200-250) $202-$211; (250-300) $201-$210; (300-350) $173-$209; (350-400) $175-$210; (400-450) $160-$185; (450-500) $159-$174; (500-550) $153-$154; (550-600) $143-$150;(600-700) $147-$148; (700-800) $135-$136.

Compared to our last sale: Calves and yearlings sold steady to $2 higher. Packer cows sold steady.

Week ago: 2,680; Year ago: 1,402

The market was stronger again this week. Heavier weights 600 pounds and up sold steady to $2 higher. Lighter weights were mostly $4 to $8 higher with some 300 to 450 pound classes $10 to $15 higher. Good local rains lightened the numbers a little but enough good quality calves to allow a few load lots to be shipped direct. A couple of new buyers on hand for the light weights.

Packer cows and bulls sold $1 lower on approximately 250 head total.

Packer cows: Higher dressing utility and cutter cows, $74-$91; lower dressing utility and cutter cows, $62-$74; light weight canner cows, $52-$62.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $98-$102; utility and cutter bulls, $93-$98; light weight canner bulls, $84-$93.
