Heavy rains give area a drink, more expected Tuesday

Aug. 26, 2013 at 3:26 a.m.

A thunderstorm over Cuero dumped rain on DeWitt County early Monday afternoon.

Victoria received .77 of an inch of rain as of 7 p.m. Monday, providing only a drop of relief from the ongoing drought.

A bulk of the rain, or about 0.28 of an inch, fell between 5 and 6 a.m.

The day broke a rainfall record for the region set in 1953 when 0.47 of an inch was recorded, said Alina Nieves, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Corpus Christi.

There is a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms during the day Tuesday. It will be partly cloudy Tuesday night, Nieves said.

Since Jan. 1, Victoria has received 14.91 inches of rain.
