Victoria Symphony League holds meeting
The Victoria Symphony League had its business luncheon meeting Aug. 21 at the Victoria Women's Club House. President Francisco Watts called the meeting to order and welcomed all to the first meeting of the year. She thanked Mary Jane Schurtz, LaNell Billings, Sally McCoach, Carol Rhode, Barbara Skipper and Charlyne Abshire for serving as co-hostesses and preparing the food.
Mary Ann Wright, membership chair, reported 30 members in attendance. Minutes from the previous meeting were read by Carol Letsinger and approved as read. Carol McLarry gave the treasurer's report, and it was filed as presented. Carol McLarry gave each member a copy of Victoria Symphony League proposed budget for 2013-14.
Committee reports were given. Debbie Durham, education, stated that she has prepared the education calendar for the year and also met with the new VISD Fine Arts director, Ken Peach, to discuss VSO education programs offered this season.
Valerie Parker, publicity, announced the Victoria Advocate's announcement of the style show/luncheon Sept. 18 was appreciated. Mary Virginia Jacobs, VSO rehearsal chair, gave a thank you to all who signed up for helping at Symphony rehearsals. Active members were asked to sign up to bring cookies at rehearsals. Mary Virginia Jacobs passed out thank-you gifts of a "Cookieologist Magnet" to previous helpers.
The style show/luncheon fundraiser Sept. 18 was discussed by Cora Jo Hummel, general chairman. Jane Cox, bake sale chair, discussed information on the dessert donations by VSL members.
Members sang an invocation, and the meeting was adjourned for a salad luncheon. The next meeting will be Sept. 11 at The Club at Colony Creek.
