Food service inspections

The Victoria City-County Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Food Temperature/Time Requirements category is 5 demerits; in the Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements category, 4 demerits; and in the Facility and Equipment Requirements, 3 demerits. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those in the categories of Food Temperature/Time Requirements and Personnel/Handling/Source Requirements are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING AUG. 23

La Terraza Mexican Grill, 702 W. Broadway St., Seadrift. Demerits: 25. Use single-use paper towels to dry hands. Do not use "thank you" bags to store food. Must use food-grade storage containers. Need to date-label. Keep paper towels at the hand sink in the kitchen. Address problem with the presence of flies. Use a licensed pest control only. Three facility or equipment violations.

La Fogata Bar and Grill, 13861 N. U.S. Highway 77 North, Victoria. Demerits: 19. Date-label food in the walk-in cooler. Keep paper towels at the hand sink. Keep cleaning rags in sanitizer buckets, not on counters. Label spray bottles. Repair the spray heads at the septic system. High water alarm in on. Need thermometer at the tabletop. Make sure all utensils go through the three-step process. Clean the ice machine. Restaurant permit has been suspended until the system is fixed. Five facility or equipment violations.

Sugar Daddi Bar and Grill, 13427 U.S. Highway 87, Westhoff. Demerits: 17. Improper cold-hold temperature. Cover food in the cooler. Discard expired food. Date-label prepared food. Suggest moving trash to make it more accessible. Need a thermometer in the tabletop. Clean the ice machine. Need buffet plate sign. Four facility or equipment violations.

M.H. Leske Oil Co., 413 S. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 7. Dispose of out-of-date Deli Express. Need to post the last inspection. One facility or equipment violation.

Paw's Pizza Pie, 134 E. Main St., Yorktown. Demerits: 7. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Address problem with the presence of flies. One facility or equipment violation.

Church's Fried Chicken No. 1331, 206 W. Rio Grande St., Victoria. Demerits: 6. Keep paper towels at the hand sink. Label spray bottles. Two facility or equipment violations.

Rosie's Mexican Restaurant, 202 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 3.

Bubba's "The" Boiling Spot Inc., 1142 state Highway 185-E, Seadrift; Brown Bag Saloon, 8609 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Burger King No. 11204, 8501 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Little Caesar's Pizza, 1907 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria; Popeye's Famous Fried Chicken No. 4224, 8702 N. Navarro St., Victoria; Subway No. 5, 5006 E. Houston Highway, Victoria; The Grape Vine Cafe, 110 Medical Drive, Suite 102, Victoria; El Sombrero Cafe, 713 N. Riedel St., Yorktown. Demerits: 0.

REINSPECTIONS

Dos Hermanos Mexican Cafe, 106 E. Houston Highway, Edna, inspected July 2 with 23 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 14 with improper cold-hold temperature. Will return to check cooler in two hours since owner adjusted thermostat. Reinspected again Aug. 14 with improper cold-hold still evident. Will return to check cooler.

Pinto Bean Restaurant, 700 W. Main St., Edna, inspected July 30 with 41 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 14 with cold-hold violation not corrected. Ware-washing violation corrected. Reinspected Aug. 15 with cold-hold violation corrected.

TA dba Travel Centers of America, 802 E. York St., Ganado, inspected July 30 with 29 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 14 with dishwasher still not fixed. Will return when fixed. Reinspected Aug. 15 with violation corrected.

La Fogata Bar and Grill, 13861 N. U.S. Highway 77 North, Victoria, inspected Aug. 20 with 19 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 20 with violation corrected. Went by and they had a licensed professional fixing the spray heads and system. Maintenance contract was signed. OK to reopen.

Whistle Stop, 8501 N. Navarro St., Victoria, inspected June 6 with 7 demerits. Reinspected Aug. 19 with water not fixed yet. There is a leak under the hand sink. Will return to recheck.
