An oil rig of Farm to Market 966 and state Highway 111 exploded. Yoakum Fire Department is on the scene.

Update: Rig fire contained

All workers have been accounted for after an oil rig explosion near state Highway 111 in Petersville in Lavaca County Wednesday night.

The Nabors oil rig, operated by EOG, exploded just before 7 p.m. after oil rig workers were drilling horizontally into the Eagle Ford Shale, said Shiner Volunteer Fire Department Fire Chief Mark Panus.

No injuries were reported, and a fire suppression crew from Houston was expected to begin putting out and investigating the blaze late Wednesday night, he said.

A nearby resident, who asked not to be identified, said her husband was in the front yard with their 4-year-old son when he saw workers running.

When he asked what happened, and workers kept running, he grabbed his son and ran, too, she said.
