Betty Kosler, Mildred Targac and Ann Duke show off some of the auction items available during the annual Shiner Catholic Church fall picnic Sunday.

It takes a lot of behind the scenes work to put on the Shiner Catholic Church fall picnic every year.

Now in its 92nd year, the event includes a variety of music, food, auctions and drawings.

But before the Knights of Columbus Park at 102 S. Ave. G is filled with revelers Sunday, many people put in many hours to make sure things go off as planned.

"It takes a group of people to do this," said Joe Machacek, church deacon and event co-chairman. "It's not all obvious to the public. There is a lot that goes on behind the scenes."

Machacek praised volunteer Mildred Targac and parish employees Betty Kosler and Ann Duke for countless hours of "envelope stuffing" and other work to get the word out about the picnic.

"Mildred goes a great job with our publicity. She gets the people there," he said.

A three-meat dinner will be served from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Drive-thru plates are also available at the American Legion Hall on alternate Highway 90 East until 12:30 p.m.

All plates are $8.50.

Music, too, will ring out during the picnic.

Local accordion players will perform from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the Shiner Hobo Band takes the stage from 2 to 5 p.m.

In the outside biergarten, there will be a variety of music from 1:30 to 7:30 p.m. Then, Los Kolaches will perform in the outside bingo pavilion from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m.

Inside the hall, with a $10 admission charge, a dance with The Emotions will be from 8:30 p.m. to midnight.

The picnic experience also includes a country store, live auction, arts and crafts booths and more.
