Evolution could be part of 'intelligent design'

Editor, the Advocate:
I, for one, would very much like to hear Mr. Raymond Smith - or anyone, for that matter - explain "intelligent design." Do you speak of just man or of all living things - the planet, the universe? I would also like to hear an explanation of how proof that the theory of evolution is false would prove the truth of either "intelligent design" or "creationism."
I wish Mr. Smith would also explain, while he is telling us about "intelligent design," what he believes evolution is, and why it couldn't be "intelligent design?" Did God design, then turn loose to obey His command, each and every amino acid cell with instructions concerning how to join and proceed toward making living creatures, or did He make an "intelligent design" decision before each such union and process - like a carpenter constructing a house with lumber, brick, etc? If the world (universe?) was made in seven days, a period of time making the process a temporal one, how could the world or universe have been made in any way other than evolutionary process? Did God make man all at once (which would, again, refute scripture), or like life from amino acid chains, by a process over time?
Please tell us more, Mr. Smith. With all the fuss being made by creationists, it seems to me we ought to hear what is meant when they say "intelligent design." What are teachers in our high schools supposed to discuss?
