Filipino community to hold garage sale in support of Typhoon Haiyan survivors
The Filipino community of Victoria has organized a garage sale fundraiser to benefit the Typhoon Haiyan survivors in the Philippines.
The garage sale, being held at 114 Waterstone, begins at 8 a.m. Friday and continues through Sunday until all items are sold.
Some items being sold are: Christmas decor, Christmas trees, home decor, furniture, toys, books, car seats, electronics, infant and toddler items, fashion jewelry and clothing.
Donations of items that will help the cause will be gratefully accepted. Cash donations will also be accepted. Making a donation of $5 can go a long way. For example, it will buy 16 pounds of rice, 10 cans of sardines or 21 liters of water.
Part of the proceeds will be given directly to the relatives of those affected by the typhoon. Some will be given to nonprofit organizations in support of the survivors.
"We want them to know that we are one with them in this struggle. For alone we are strong; together, we are stronger," said Felix Eamiguel, one of the organizers.
