Wharton County wreck victim identified

Law enforcement officials work the scene of a confirmed fatality Thursday morning on U.S. Highway 59 near Hillje in Wharton County.

A 45-year-old Ganado man died Thursday morning in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. Highway 59 one mile south of Hillje in Wharton County.

Jose Jesus Espino was pronounced dead at the scene by Wharton County Justice of the Peace Dennis Korenek, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety report.

About 9 a.m., Espino was traveling west on Wharton County Road 313 when he disregarded a stop sign and pulled onto U.S. Highway 59, according to the report.

His 1997 Ford Escort was struck on the driver's side by a 2008 Ford F-350.

The truck was driven by Jennifer Lynn Koudela, 30, of Louise. Koudela was uninjured, according to the report.

DPS Trooper Devon Wiles investigated the crash.
