CHRISTMAS IN GOLIAD

Looking up at his mother, Seana Towner, 4-year-old Wyatt announces, "Hurry up, Mom. We don't want to miss the parade."
Towner giggles at her son.
"Don't worry; we won't miss it," she said, lifting a necklace from its display in the outdoor Goliad Christmas market. "This is where we're doing our Christmas shopping."
Towner, of Pettus, drove to Goliad with her son to take part in the Christmas festivities throughout the downtown square.
A cheerful crowd was beginning to gather on the sidewalks, many of them sipping hot cocoa in the bitter cold and enjoying the live Christmas caroling.
"It's so wonderful. It's very inviting, and everybody is so friendly. As you go by, everybody talks to you," Towner said.
Towner works as a social studies teacher at Goliad Intermediate School, and Wyatt attends school nearby.
When she heard about Goliad's over-the-top Christmas event and parade, she said she didn't want to miss it.
"We came because it's a wonderful event. The things that are going on here in Goliad - you just don't see that anymore with hometowns. So we wanted to experience that," she said.
Wyatt, too, was enjoying the Christmas lights and music and those dressed in holiday threads.
His favorite thing was "getting toys from Santa Claus," Wyatt said, before bursting into a 4-year-old's rendition of "Jingle Bells."
A festive parade commenced at 7 p.m., and visitors crowded the streets to catch a glimpse.
"This is going to be our new tradition," Wyatt said.
