Council should always use 'practical sense'

Editor, the Advocate:
Reading the Victoria Advocate article Dec. 8 - City Council discussion about the proposed tree ordinance - was so very gratifying.
Jared Mayfield was quoted as saying they would apply "practical sense" to the administration of the ordnance.
I would recommend that language be written into the ordinance before adoption by the council. I would also suggest that all city ordinances be amended to incorporate similar wording. "Common sense" might also work.
And while we're at it, maybe we could hire a consultant to advise the council and all the departments on the appropriate application of "practical sense."
Way to go, Mr. Mayfield! I think we're on a roll.
