Christus Health Plan is available to uninsured families in the service area who are eligible for Medicaid (STAR) and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP).

• STAR offers a wide range of health services for pregnant women and children who qualify. There are no premiums or co-payments for doctor visits, eye glasses or prescriptions.

Christus Health Plan, Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) provider are hosting a "Magical Christmas Celebration" at the Victoria Mall from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday.

"We're incredibly excited to help share the joy of Christmas with families across South Texas this year," said Anita Leal, executive director of Christus Health Plan. "With Santa Claus and Cuddles the Bear in attendance, it's going to be a fun afternoon for the whole family."

Community partners will offer health tips for the Christmas season, and Christus Health Plan personnel will provide information about the plan and its Medicaid and CHIP programs.

The event will give families the gift of a family portrait and offer activities such as a "Letters to Santa" writing station and an ornament-decorating station.

Face painting, balloon animals and Christmas train rides also will be provided.

Christus Health Plan is sponsoring pictures with Santa at the Victoria Mall throughout the Christmas season as well. The organization will distribute 5,000 gifts to children.

"As a Catholic organization, there's just no better way for us to end the year than with a 'Magical Christmas Celebration,'" Leal said.
