Shooting sends one man to hospital; 3 suspects flee (w/video)

Crime scene tape blocks the street at Elk Drive.

A Victoria man was injured Thursday night when three men shot open the front door of his home on the 300 block of Antelope Circle and shot him once in the leg.

The suspects fled the scene and, as of late Thursday, remained on the loose, said Detective William Whitfield with the Victoria Police Department.

Police could only identify the wounded man by his first name, Dalton, Whitfield said. He was transported to a Victoria hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening and was expected to go into surgery, Whitfield said.

Mike Medrano, a neighbor, was inside his home when he heard three shots fired about 8:30 p.m. He said he immediately told his wife and children to go to a safe spot inside the home, and then he called 9-1-1.

He said he then saw the men fleeing the scene and neighbors outside the injured man's door.

"He was in his chair, writhing around in pain," he said about the victim. "He was saying, 'I've been shot. I've been shot.'"

Whitfield encouraged anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Victoria Police Department.

A description of the men was not immediately available, but he asked those who know the shooters' identities not to approach the suspects because they are considered armed and dangerous.
