Church honors senior saints
Minnehulla Baptist Church held a banquet Nov. 24 for the senior saints of the church to show appreciation for their years of service to the church and the surrounding communities.
The youth of the church served the honorees a three-course meal catered by Cynthia Antoine and Lisa Hall.
Vicki Youngblood presented a program consisting of reflections of wisdom from the honorees and singing of gospel songs and hymns and tributes were shared.
Dr. Ira E. Antoine Jr., pastor of Minnehulla Baptist Church, presented Joe C. McMillan with a plaque naming him Senior Saint of the Year. The award recognized his faithful service to God and community.
McMillan reminded the attendees of the three things that need to be done to continue to grow and be blessed: learn how to worship, learn how to give and learn how to treat a pastor.
He has served at Minnehulla as a Sunday school superintendent, sung in the angelic choir and male chorus. He is a Sunday school teacher, in brotherhood and continues to serve as a deacon of 44 years.
McMillan retired from Alcoa after more than 35 years of working in various positions. He has returned from retirement several times and is serving as director of training for new and tenured employees in the clarification department.
His hobbies are bowling, yard work and playing dominoes and cards, especially Bid-Whist.
